EVO-ALL - OEM Fob not working to unlock after remote started. TPMS is cut and works.

I flashed EVO-ONE to latest firmware, used the wizard to set my settings, then went into pro mode and followed the steps in documentation to select XL202 RF kit, and installed in the vehicle. The SmartStart module is not yet installed. 3x lock works with OEM fob but once started, the OEM fobs no longer work to lock/unlock the doors. I did cut the TPMS wire and does not flash when started with key or after key is in ignition and turned to ON. I did test alternating the D6 and D4 wires on the cut TPMS wire but still had no unlock from fob after remote start.

My suspicion is that since the TPMS light doesn't flash in standard operation, enabling the RF kit might have something to do with this but since I didn't test the install before I enabled that, I'm not sure. Is there something else I might be missing?

If the tpms is not flashing when the car is remote started, it's most likely due to using the wrong wire on the car.

D4-D6 only open the circuit once remote started. Their orientation does not matter.

most importantly... make model and year of the car? t-harness? if yes, which one?

Whoops. Forgot I took the car details out of the title because I ran out of room. 2015 H-key corolla with TOY3 harness.

Sorry for the confusion. By "standard operation", I meant when started with the key.

  • DOES flash when remote started
  • DOES flash when D4-D6 are not connected
  • DOES NOT flash when started with the key
  • DOES NOT flash after remote start takeover

Thanks for your help.

Your TPMS is ok.

Check Data doorlock wire. Go with PIN location considering there's a few green wires in that connector. http://www.wirecolor.com/vehiclegroupimage/121041.jpg

Will do. I didn't think to check that since doors lock and unlock fine when engine isn't running.

I checked the Data Doorlock wire and it was correct. I took notes for a couple other things as well.

I noticed that when locking/unlocking the door, the EVO-ONE's blue light blinks so I started monitoring the blue light in different conditions.

  • When the car isn't running AND there is no other key in the ignition; light does blinks on lock and unlock.
  • Once started w/ either the remote start or with key; light doesn't blink when pushing lock/unlock on the fob.
  • When the car isn't running AND there is a key in the ignition; light doesn't blink when pushing lock/unlock.This is with the ignition in any position, including OFF.
  • After remote start with 3x on lock; the light does blink when car send lock command.

So it really seems like the only time the car doesn't get a lock/unlock command from the fob is when there is a key in the ignition or the engine is running. It appears as though the EVO can see all the commands come through, when they come through.

As I understand it, Toyota disables lock/unlock from the fob if the engine is running but I thought the remote start would be able to still send the lock command but it really just seems to be monitoring the lock commands and not really sending them. I thought maybe I needed to program the EVO to recognize the commands from the OEM fob and followed the steps to program a remote but it didn't appear to be receiving anything from the fobs.

Ltitle note... a lot of non factory knock-off keys, and/or keys that are not programmed as master keys, will not be detected on can-bus

This is an after market key so I'm wondering if that's what the problem is here. I'm going to see if I can get ahold of the OEM key and will update.

While the vehicle is OFF, the module detects doorlocks on CAN.

While the car is remote started, the module tries to detect door locks on the Data door lock wire and echos the commands on can-bus. This is the only reason the remotes work while remote started.

Knock offs can play a role but also:

  • if the factory toyota remote starter is installed
  • if equipped, wrong TPMS wire (tpms and doorlock run on the "same" network. Hence why the interupt and why the doorlocks typically do not work while the key is started with the key)
  • problem with data door lock connection
